Describe the complete project

Give the installer the intended use, dimensions and any structure or manufacturer drawings. Avoid requesting a generic thickness before the loads, foundation requirements and local review path are known. A freestanding patio and the base for a building are different design conversations.

Confirm the design responsibility

Ask which details the installer supplies and which require a building designer or engineer. Identify the proposed reinforcement, edge details, anchors, joints and any moisture-control layer relevant to the project. This site provides planning information and connections; it does not provide structural design or certify a foundation.

Plan the hidden work

Discuss excavation, supporting material, drainage, underground services and any inspections needed before placement. Photograph the preparation when appropriate and retain the approved drawings. Once concrete is placed, missing or misunderstood details can be difficult to assess.

Compare the whole scope

Ask whether permits, site access, testing when specified, finishing, curing and cleanup are included. Clarify the required tolerances and intended floor finish. Get any exclusions in writing, and do not treat a volume calculation as an engineered specification or a contractor’s final material order.

Questions to put in the proposal

  • What exact use and loads are being designed for?
  • Who provides the foundation or slab design?
  • Which inspections happen before placement?
  • What drawings and handover records will I receive?

Compare the written scope and use the volume planner for preliminary geometry. For local preparation, read the Huntsville guide.
